WARRENTON TRAINING
CENTER FIVE-YEAR
REVIEW
Warrenton Training Center (WTC) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), in coordination with Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VADEQ), is conducting the first Five-Year Review of the remedies implemented at WTC, Station B, located in Fauquier County, Virginia.
The purpose of the Five-Year Review is to ensure that selected remedies continue to provide adequate protection of human health and the environment. A Five-Year Review is required by section 121 of Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act for remedial actions that may result in any hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants remaining at a site at levels that do not allow for unlimited use and unrestricted exposure.
WTC and USACE previously completed environmental investigations and issued a Decision Document for Sites 1, 2, and 6 at WTC. Site 1 consists of the Inactive Chemical Pits, Site 2 consists of the Inactive Landfill and Site 6 consists of groundwater contamination associated with Sites 1 and 2. The Five-Year Review process includes review of historical documents/ data and new information, site inspections, and interviews.
WTC and USACE will submit draft findings of the Five-Year Review to VADEQ in September 2026. After regulatory review, the Final Report will be completed by April 2027 and will be made public shortly thereafter.
Relevant environmental documents are available for review at the Fauquier County Public Library, 11 Winchester Street, Warrenton, Virginia.
Anyone with questions or information that can help the review team assess remedial actions is encouraged to contact Remediation Program Manager Emily Cline at
