AN ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR A
PROJECT FUNDED THROUGH THE
VIRGINIA WATER SUPPLY REVOLVING
FUND
Public Notice No.: BIL 012C-24
First Publication Date: September 09, 2026
The Virginia Department of Health has under consideration
a request for a Categorical Exclusion from an Environmental
Assessment for a waterworks project proposed to be funded
through the Virginia Water Supply Revolving Fund. The ap-
plicant is Fauquier County Water and Sanitation Authority.
The proposed project consists of the construction of a new
treatment building on Cannon Dr. in Warrenton, Virginia that
will contain ion exchange vessels, booster pumps, sodium
hypochlorite feed system, hydropneumatic tank, and elec-
trical panels. The new treatment facility will replace the ex-
isting building, which will be removed following construction
and startup of the new treatment facility. The new treatment
facility will be constructed in an open grassed area of the
existing site, adjacent to the existing building. The existing
raw water storage tank will remain in operation with the new
treatment facility. The existing well will be given a cap, and
fencing will be added around the site. No tree clearing is
proposed. No adverse environmental impacts are anticipat-
ed.
The project meets the following exclusion categories estab-
lished by the Department:
• Installation of on-site treatment technologies (e.g., fil-
ters, ion exchange, iron removal).
Documentation supporting this request includes:
• Request for Categorical Exclusion from an Environ-
mental Assessment dated 4/23/2026
• Financial and Construction Assistance Programs En-
vironmental Review site visit memorandum dated
7/21/2026
On the basis of a review of the request and support docu-
mentation, the Virginia Department of Health proposes to
approve the request.
Persons may comment in writing to the Department on the
proposed approval of the Categorical Exclusion within 30

within this period will be considered by the Department. Fol-
